Writing your Short Story
Have you ever fancied writing a short story? Or are you a seasoned short story writer who wants to deepen your skills?
Spring 2024 – I will run a 10-week online writing course where you will build a short story from a foundational idea to a completed piece.
The course will explore the inspiration and the building blocks of what makes for a great short story.
Over two months, as a group, we will develop and craft the structure and content of your story, sharing feedback and supporting each other through drafting, revising, editing and polishing.

Logistics
Details of the dates and times of the class will be published in the coming weeks.
In the sessions, we will look at examples of brilliant short stories. We’ll unpick the threads of how and what the author is doing through their stories. Each week we’ll tackle a particular element of writing craft to work on with time for group discussion and in-class writing.
Sessions will be recorded and made available to participants throughout the course.
It is expected that you’ll undertake further writing of your short story outside of the class. You are incredibly welcome to join us in one of the Writing Rooms to help support you with this. Ridley’s Writing Room takes place at 8pm on a Tuesday evening and The Write Lab at 12pm on a Friday lunchtime. Access to the writing rooms is free of charge.
Pricing and Access
The total cost of the course is £149.00, with an early bird rate of £99.00 if you sign up by 14th February 2024.
It’s important to me that cost does not become a barrier to access. I have one fully-funded place available if you or someone you know would benefit from attending the course but cannot afford to.
